Expanders to Implants and Latissimus flap 8.0

Latissimus Dorsi Flap Surgery with bilateral implants

Latissimus Dorsi Flap Surgery with bilateral implants

I went through chemo, then in July 2020 I had a bilateral mastectomy with expanders.  On Sept 2020, I started radiation.  After 15 radiation treatments, I got admitted to the hospital with an infection.

I was in the hospital for 5 days and had 4 surgeries.

I lost my right (cancer side) expander because of the infection and because I was at high risk of losing another tissue expander if it was replaced right away, I had an antibiotic spacer put in (this was basically two cement discs that kept a little shape in the breast).  I healed and finished eight more rounds of radiation.  May 2021 I was supposed to have my exchange surgery, but because my skin was so tight from radiation, my surgeon suggested the Latissimus Dorsi Flap on top of a new tissue expander.  I then had my exchange surgery at the end of July, which swapped out the expander for an implant.
Now I have an implants on both sides.
