Breast Cancer – Direct to Implant, nerve preserving 2.3 – Empowered Mastectomy
I got breast cancer at age 29 and elected to have a lumpectomy and radiation. I ended up really despising all of the follow-ups and scares, so I opted for a mastectomy 7 years later. I was told by many surgeons that I wouldn’t be able to have an implant-only reconstruction because of my radiation history but Dr. Anne Peled said that she could do an implant-only, nipple-sparing mastectomy and reconstruction and in just one surgery!

I’m really happy with the results. The most incredible part is that Dr. Peled does sensation preservation mastectomies. She works with her husband (a nerve surgeon that she went to Harvard Medical School with) to preserve the nerves during mastectomy when it’s safe to do so and to reconstruct the nerves using nerve grafting for nerves that need to be cut due to oncological safety. I have some numb areas (around the incisions) but otherwise can feel my breasts! My breasts look and feel better than before 🙂
